The Minister of Culture, Ángeles González-Sinde, visits the Almadén Mining Park

The Minister of Culture, Ángeles González-Sinde, visits the Almadén Mining Park to support candidacy to World Heritage Heritage of Mercury. Almadén and Idrija. The candidacy was presented last 1 February by the minister at UNESCO's headquarters in Paris. The decision will be made known in June, 2012.

The minister affirmed that Almadén's project to be declared World Heritage is “priority” for the Spanish Government.

González-Sinde considered the tasks carried out in the area to turn a mine that exploited mercury in an uninterrupted fashion for more than 2000 years into a Mining Park that is “visitable and attractive for the tourist, in an exceptional natural enclave” as “highly important”.

“Combined with very a well-preserved environment and an exceptional landscape”, added González-Sinde, Almadén will become a “quality tourist visit, an economic site for the entire region”. “It is worth it to visit Almadén”, she assured.
